    Default Lake Blackshear

Anyone have any tips for someone new to fishing Lake Blackshear? My dad has a lot at Campers Haven RV park on the north end of the lake, so that'll be where I launch my boat mostly. I have fished Blackshear twice for crappie. The first time, I was with a friend in his boat, that had no electronics what so ever other than a trolling motor. It was in the fall of '12, we didn't catch but a handfull, one being my best crappie ever of 2.3lbs 17". The second trip was most recent, 4th of July weekend, I started out at daybreak and fished around the Hwy 27 bridge and a couple deep holes without any luck. Growing up my grandaddy, daddy and myself fished Lake Eufaula(Walter F. George) a bajillion times. Being my grandaddy was the "skipper" we fished "his" way. Which was during the spawn when the fish are right up on the edge of the bank, with jigs. I'm not against changing patterns to find/catch fish.

I wish I could help you but I have only fished Blackshear a few times with very limited results. I am suprised some of the Blackshear regulars have not chimed in? Could be no one has been recently due to heat and boat traffic.

I'm not crappie fishing much right now. I fished Blackshear today and caught these fishing for bream. I was using crickets around the cypress trees and grass...I threw back alot of small bream. Water temp was 83* this morning and was up to 88* when I left at 2. Fish early due to water lice, Blackshear is a tough lake to learn, but once you learn it some you can catch some fish.

Yeah I know what ya'll mean about the heat and boat traffic. I went Saturday(July 5th), after 11am........you can hang it up, too many water skiers and jet ski's too even think about fishing!!! Unless you find somewhere way back in a slough away from boat traffic, then there's no guarrantee as to "finding the fish!!" There was too many idiots on the water that day.........I try my darnedest not to be a hater, and I enjoy all aspects of the lake whether fishing or just recreational, but when you come haulin' boogity boogity by women and children wading/swimming, and not even slow up........I think one rightfully deserves every bullet hole in the hull of their boat someone sends their way!!!

This is the one I caught in the fall of '12 up near Camper's Haven. Like I said earlier, I was with a friend in his boat, basically fishing blind in the water, no electronics what so ever on his jon boat other than the trolling motor. We were just pitching minnows to blow downs like the one behind me in the pic. Pretty much soon as the line hit the water the cork never stopped, I actually thought it was a bass from the way it hit. It measured just over 17" and right at 2.3lbs., I was going to get it mounted. I had it stored in the deep freezer at my dad's, the day I went to go take it to the taxidermist I found it gone.......still don't know where or how!!!!

fish the river channel and flats along the river channel suring winter and early spring. I like to longline looking for aggressive fish, but will push/spider rig brush piles if the conditions call for it. Electronics are a must, thats the only way you will find brushpiles and wood structure that are holding fish. spawn is easy just head shallow in the sloughs...Summer I don't fish for crappie alot unless its early as said the water lice are bad and most of the crappie are in the channel so its near impossible to get at them with all the boats/jetski.
