    Default Oconee 3-29

We got on the water about 8:00 expecting to get a wet backside, but the rain never came. Couldn't believe we had the whole area to ourselves until Countrytime showed up a little later. At first I thought maybe every body else knew something we didn't know, but the fish were ready to go. We caught 28 before the wind got too bad. The best bait was blue body, chartreuse tail with a pink 1/16 oz head. The 2 best fish were 1lb 13oz and 1lb 15oz, but most were in the 1 to 1 1/4 range. . Wtg, team Dmick, man I wish I had gotten there at the crack with you and your partner, started at 11:00AM and that's when the wind cranked up and the rain soon followed a few hours later until 6:00PM wave after wave of it. I did however crank out a hard fought 8 over 12 inches and I do mean a hard fought 8. Saw one other boat about 4:00PM and hollered at him and said, we must want to fish mighty bad you know it!

PS Those are very nice, like they say the early bird gets the worm! Congrats

We were generally catching fish in 7 feet of water and right on the bottom. We would catch fish when you could see the rod tip bouncing from the jig contacting the bottom. The first few fish I caught were on a double rig of 1/16 oz heads and on the bottom jig that was constantly bottoming out on the inside rod during a turn. I'm a little slow on the uptake, but eventually the light bulb came on. Most of the fish were concentrated in this one area where there was a change in depth of a couple of feet and the fish seemed to be right on the break. As we were leaving, we ran over a spot at about 3 MPH and marked a lot of fish in some deep water. Man that Lowrance Elite made some perfect arches! The down imaging was all lit up too. The fish were big and might have been bass or hybrids, but I dropped a minnow down and immediately caught a 4 finger fish. I thought we might have to fight the gale force winds for a while, but I never could get another bite. If they are still there this weekend I might have to give them another try.

Countrytime, we probably would have stayed on a little while and were actually talking about trying a few sheltered spots up Richland creek, but the wind had done a number on our 2 year old trolling battery. We decided that a fish filet at the MickyD's and an early arrival at the crib was the best bet. We now have a brand new trolling battery for this weekend and maybe we will make it Saturday and Sunday.
