Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum. It's hard to find people who love to crappie fish as much as I do! Hope to learn some tricks of the trade...

I've been fishing for the past 70 years. The best hobby in the world. I fish in several states and lakes. Back home in central Illinois we fish strip mine lakes. We are about 2 to 3 weeks away from some great crappie fishing. I would like to fish for crappie some time in the south never have. What lake would you recommend?
Either Sardis or Grenada in MS.
Have you ever fished Moon Lake Miss?
The ice went out Friday in canton. Caught some nice 12" crappie drifting today on jigs.
Buck
Buck, what type of jigs are you using?
I went out Saturday morning at a small lake near my home and tried everything in the book to get a bite, but could'nt. I even topped my jigs with live minnows and nibbles but to no avail:( I found fish holding around 18' deep but they was'nt interested in what I had to offer! I believe the recent change in the weather has had a big impact on feeding patterns. Whats your strategy when the bite just is'nt happening?

I use 1/32 oz with a Tripple Ripple Grub 2". I used a PMK/Chart Pep tl yesterday and never change colors. I have several packs of colors that I bought at Bass Pro.
I Like to troll slow with 2 poles one with 1/32 oz and one with 1/8th oz to see what depth they are at and find them. I will vertical jig then or troll again.
I use different color jig heads my favoriate is pink. Depends where they are at I will cast or even use a cork and jig it.
The best minnows are Rosie's. Where is a good place to stay near Big Sandy?
Buck
Thanks for the feedback. Its always good to see what others are having good luck on.
I don't fish Big Sandy alot. Most of my fishing is done locally near my home. When I do fish KY Lake, I don't stay overnight. I live about an hour and ten minutes from the lake. Most of my friends stay at camping grounds in RV's.
There are several options to take on choosing where to stay. I would google it and see which place suits your needs the best. Sorry for not being able to help much..

New to the site, found it while looking for some info on tying jigs. Recently retired and have more time to fish and do the stuff I always wanted to try. Bought a bunch of jig pouring stuff last year at a yard sale and am trying to put it all to good use. I live in western New York and fish for anything that swims, mostly panfish, bass and pike. I see lots of great great info here and am looking forward to putting some of it to use and offer whatever I can as well.

Just finishing up with a week-end @ Lake Talquin, caught 23 nice size crappie off dock, Friday & Saturday night, since boat not in water. Also landed a couple of nice bream, and a catfish that weighed about 10#.. Enjoyed the beautiful day Saturday.. Family will be down again this coming up week-end for Easter. Hope to be able to catch some again..

New to the site; just happened to find it while looking to see what the state record was in my state.
Hey thanks for the tips and yes I am new to the forum but not to crappie.com so figured it was time to join in the fun. Lake Talquin has become my favorite place to come to fish and camp. We are coming next week to spend the week fishing and camping in our Garden of Eden. We love it and usually I catch more fish than my husband so its all good for me.
I was raised up fishing with my grandmother and learned the value of a good cane pole and rod n reel. I am not an expert but I do have a passion for it. Look forward to fishing advice, direction, and the best honey holes around!
Thanks Slab for letting me in!
Ok Newbie with a question....
Can I search the threads, In particular Lake Keowee SC?
can I post some braggin pictures?
Look up on the top of the page towards the right side and click on Search to use the search function. You can post bragging pictures either on the Main Crappie board....or use one of the specific Species boards, or post them on your State board.
I wanted to thank slab for starting this website.
I love your quote G3, Thats great and so true.
I am a "newbie" as of Sunday the 11th. Got turned on to crappie fishing about 3 years ago by one of my best friends. You all might know him as Black Crow on the message board.
Went out for the first time last weekend and had a great day.

I'm new to the forum and just wanted to know if anybody has been fishing in the DFW Area in Texas!!!???!?
This looks looks like the right place for a first post. I found this site in a quest for more crappie fishing knowledge. Learning about techniques such as spider rigging is intriguing to me, especially since where I am from few fisherfolk do it. If it puts more fish in the boat, I gotta learn more about it. Great forum you folks have here.
Hi fellows, I'm a newbe to the site but not to fishing. All I knew to "perch jerking" until recently was drowning a minnow over a top. A friend of mine introduced me to Spider Rigging and using jigs. Ive gone nuts over it. Thanks to all of you for sharing your valuable info and maybe one day I can help someone myself.
Hey, just wanting to make a test.
Hello from the banks of the Lower Illinois River.
New member here. This old man is a catman-what-am, but a novice where it comes to crappie. I will devour every morsel of information, soak up every droplet of knowledge that I can wring from this website... then ask questions in order to learn how to find and catch these delicious morsels.
See you on the water!

Hey from NJ!
After living in South Florida for the past 5 years, I came back to Jersey. I've grown up in NJ and been fishing here all my life (freshwater). Now I need to get my mind off missing Florida so much and began writing a blog of my freshwater fishing experiences in southern/central jersey. I'm also into jig and lure making of almost any kind but mostly targeting panfish. So I guess we can see where this place takes me..
