when Crapslabstu and mysel went out last year I seen his I-pilot and it caught my eye because he was fishing sixteen rods and sittind in the middle of the boat. Mine i can set it on one and dont have to touch the foot pedal but like you if the wind pick up my speed picks up. Sometimes mine wont stay on course either

Is longlinning sort of like slow trolling back behind your boat but with a drop rig of some sort? I do have the Auto Pilot so that is encouraging that it works well now I just have to figure out what jigs / rigs to use and figure how not to make fool of myself Ha Ha

No nothing like you just said. Its fast trolling with hardly any weight. The only weight i use is the weight of the jig head with a split shot every once in a while. Cast jig heads with curlytails out behind your boat 50-100ft and set them in the rod holder. The more line and more weight the deeper you run/ less line and less weight the shallower you are running. I use alot of rods with diff size weights and diff amounts of line out until i find the right setup for the day. With the autopilot you can have rods in the front and back and if you get a strike you can walk to the back and fight the fish witout your speed changing, direction changing and the boat stopping. If you stop when you get a hit, all your other lines will fall to the bottom and either get tangled or hung up. Never stop moving, not mater what. A good starting speed is .9, then work up

to this system is to the individual's use and taste. Start out with a few rods 4 and
work up............get to know how to work that remote well (good) that is the ticket
to making your long-ling a sucess.. Know how it works into the wind and away from
wind, how to side roll the waves, making turns is very important (wide and controlled)
Once you have boat in control, the fish will come to be caught

Poleposition, an easy way for me to paint you a picture is trolling for dolphin or sails offshore as far as how the lines are laid out except with staggered length rods and no outriggers. Adjust the depth you are fishing by speed, weight and length of line out.

Wow thanks guys ,I think that is how I will try my first Spec fishing since that is so similar to how I troll in SW. Sounds like I will be stocking up on some curly tails and jig heads today! Also are they schooling right now? Or is that later when the water is colder.
