My first fish came when I was 9. I had never fished before, and either had my dad. I asked for a fishing pole, and so we bought one out of a man's basement my dad knew. We got our worms, had the plan, went through Hardee's drive-thru and got a bacon/egg/cheese biscuit before the sun came up. We went to a 600 acre lake (where I fish now for crappie), got on a paddle boat of someone we knew. We paddled out, tied on a bobber, sinker, and a treble hook. I made him bait my hook. I made the cast, and about 15 seconds later my dad asked me where my bobber was. It was gone. So I stood up in the paddle boat (NOT A GOOD IDEA), my dad jerked me back down, and I caught a 2-pound channel cat. He ended up catching a very small catfish. I have a picture of that, considering that was the last time my dad and I went fishing together up until about 3 years ago. Now, 20 years later, my dad and I share 4 days of crappie fishing on that lake, and I will treasure every minute of it. Take advantage of those times. You never know when you won't have them anymore. Needless to say, I really look forward to the first week in May every year. Last year we came home with 10 1gallon bags full of crappie fillets in 3 1/2 days of fishing.

Oh yeah...I have a boat now. I don't think I could paddle like we did that first morning. I have a motor, and a little more comfortable boat to fish on.

My 1st fish was a "bugle mouth bass" that almost pulled me in the lake. I drove my uncles crazy with that story, they were bass fishermen. Reality was I caught a small carp and got excited and walked into the water. Dad said once I realized i was in the water, I turned around, stuck the pole over my shoulder and started running up the bank with it. I cried when he called it carp and decided to hummor me told me it was "bugle mouth bass" instead. One of my earliest memories, I can't remember how old I was, I can't even remember when I learned the truth.

Remember my first fish. Heck I can't remember my last fish. I do however remember hanging a lot of my dads lures up in the cypress trees we were fishing under. Back then that river looked so wide. I have been back down to that river sitting at the marina having a beer and looking across the riveer remembering those times. That river sure doesn't look as wide now. Guess it shrank over time. It had been my dram for a long time to retire and the two of us to fish again when ever we wanted to. It wasn't to be. He passed a few years ago. There is so much I didn't pay attention to that I should have. Pay attention guys they will not always be there.

i dont remember my first fish, but my most memorable fish has to be the 2 biggest fish i have caught.

I was 11 or 12, late night jug fishing for bluecat for a tournament. We pulled in lots of 20-30 pound fish. it started drizzlin, i dozed off. The next thing i know was My dad and his friends saying that the fish on had to be huge. i helped pull in the line. on the other end was a 49 inch long, 57.6 pound blue.

The next was just a couple years ago, 13 or 14 We were trolling for white bass and stripers with a guide friend. I was holding the rod in my hand, when... WHHHAAAAMMM The rod almost got ripped out my hand. it took me atleast 15 minutes to reel this bad boy in. I had caught a 9.999999 pound striper. The largest striper in that guides boat, and would-be youth lake record.

I remember taking part in a fishing derby when I was about 7 or so in Boise Idaho. I caught s catfish that was about 9 or 10 inches long and was running up to the judges with it when I tripped and fell on it. The spine on the dorsal fin stuck in my leg right below my kneecap. Man did that hurt. I'm sure I will never forget that fish.

I'll never forget my first fish.
I was 8 years old, living in the Colorado Rockies at 9,100 foot elevation. Almost twice as high as Denver.
We (brothers and I) would play in Tenmile Creek across the road from Dad's Standard gas station. We saw the fish, wanted to catch them, and came up with a plan. Damn the creek with rocks, hour later we had a damn and the pool was holding Trout. Now the problem was how to catch them, every time we got close they swam off. We didn't have poles, nor had I ever seen one before. We were trying to catch them by hand. WE tried for several days to catch them by hand. Mind you the water is winter melt off the mountains and averaged about 40 in the middle of summer. We finally decided to make a smaller damn to divide the main damn. That narrowed the holding area, but didn't stop them from swimming back up stream, so we rounded the smaller damn. Bingo, they could get in but not out. From there we learned how to catch them by hand.

Next year, we got poles for Christmas and would ride our Schwinns up the trail next to the creek and fish one of the nine beaver damns. We didn't have bait, and learned to snag em. As the fish swam over a treble hook we raised the pole and snagged into the fish. Didn't have a clue what to do with them, but we had fun.

Next time I fished was while stationed in Adak Alaska while in the Marine Corp. Some guy bet me $20 I couldn't catch a Salmon from the Creek. He lost. Once I found out the Navy cooks would cook up the fish for us I switched to fixed bayonets and speared them out of the creek. For the cooks trouble I gave him a Salmon to every one he cooked for me.

It was a crappie for sure. Don't remember how big but still remember how excited I got. That was 65 years ago. Still get excited with every bite.
