Terrova hand wired remote?????

You guys who are interested in this unit need to round up a Terrova foot pedal and send it to me. I have to take one apart to figure what makes it tick. It don't have to be a working model. I am ASSUMING that all Terrova foot pedals are the same.

I don't mind doing this stuff. Chaps the manufs butt, which gives me pleasure...:p.

Here's something I've wanted for a long time - maybe this is what you're thinking about doing. I'd like to be able to plug into my foot pedal and have a hand held speed controller that would work just like the controller on the foot pedal. Accuracy with my feet is not very.....well.......accurate. Coincidentally, I can't dance either. But I digress. What I'd like to be able to do is snap to 100% to zip from 1 spot to the next in the spring, then slow as I approach the next stump or vary with accuracy to hold against gusting winds. Of course, I'd also like to be able to remove this accessory and still have full use of the foot pedal.

Is that what you're dreaming up? If not, is what I'm wanting possible or feasible?

Canepole, I believe they're all the same - I gots one, but kinda hate
to be without it - if you don't get one first, I'll have mine at camp or
the next time I get up to see you, and I ain't afraid to take it apart...

I will say this, it has a rotary dial for speed, kinda like the old foot
controls - you're supposed to be able to roll it with your foot, but
I can't work it too good like that either - especially in cold weather
with big boots on.

All I really need is left and right, and speed in a hand control.
A on/off button for continuous would be ok too, but I'm pretty used to
just rolling it down to "0" when I want to stop.

This "zip" could be done, but prob throw you butt out the boat if you accidentally engage the zip. I know these things.

Wired hand held control to replace foot control and give full speed linearity (not the step control you get from the wireless remote).
This would be one just like Jabbo built for the V2. I like the sound "V2". Sounds Germanic.

Them manuf want tell you diddly squat. The repair centers don't even git this info. If they do, maybe one will read this post and scan a drawing for me. OOPS! My hand is full of spit.:p

Ya, I can tell you about the zip on Terrova co-pilot
product liability problem waiting to happen.
Little rabbit button sittin up all high and exposed on top of the remote -
I manage to turn it on accidentally by leaning on it at least once or
twice every trip. Of course I'm sitting down, and my boat is so heavy
it takes several seconds for it to really take off - I hear loud whine
and see motor head torque up out corner of my eye - I've got pretty
quick at slapping the button and turning it back off now.

If I don't end up with a home-made remote, I'm either gonna make a guard
to cover that button OR figure some way to disable it.

I took my Terrova foot pedal apart the other day. The four wires coming from the trolling motor go into a poured mold inside of the pedal. It would destroy your pedal if you take the mold apart.

The controls work opposite of what you would think. When you press the keys, it lifts the arms up off the molded piece to activate functions.

What you are describing with only wires would be a receiver/transmitter arrangement. Sounds like an epoxy molded circuit. Makes it impossible (almost) to duplicate. However, epoxied circuit still has to read the foot switches. So there has to be more wires going into this molded circuit. Now, you can take this foot pedal and repackage it I am sure of this without even looking at it. They had to put it together didn't they?

You can always parallel momentary open switches and master/slave speed controls.

I would have to look at one. Nothing is impossible. Practical, well, that is the question yet to be determined.

Since there are only four wires from the foot control, would it be possible to identify the functions by checking voltage and continuity in these wires, and coming up with a simple control for speed and steering? The unit is turned off when it stows. I don't pretend to know anything about electronics, so if this doesn't make sense, consider the source.
