Thread: Starting battery question

650 cold cranking amps will start your 50 just fine. I have a 40 horse Mariner, run all my crap off it, cept the trolling motor and only charge the battery bout every 3rd trip. there seems to be some debate about how often to charge, but every third time works for me

650 cold cranking amps should work.I have a 60 Mercury and only have 450 cca. But i am in AZ.

With bilge and aerators I'd go with a dual purpose 650 to be sure and charge after each trip. ( I keep a cheap trickle charger and x-cord beside where I park the boat and hook up as soon as I get home. Then I never have to worry.)

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I needed the dual purpose or not. I appreciate the suggestions guys.

I'm on my third year using 2 Walmart dual marine types with no problems. I have actually been surprised they lasted that long for "El Cheapos". I credit it to the trickle charger never letting the sulfides decay or slowing it at least.

I'm on year #6 with a 29 deep cycle. I can't credit it to keeping it charged, because I don't always do a good job of that. I just bought another one just like it, but need a 24 series for starting, and running the pumps.

I won an Exide Nautalus at a tournament, and it lasted for about 10-12 trips to the lake. Now both chargers say "check connection" when I hook it up. Anyone know if those prize batteries carry any kind of warranty? I didn't figure it did, but worth a shot right?

I just bought a on board charger so I could keep the batteries charged easier.

650 should be fine. If all you are running is the pumps & motor,as long as the stator on your motor is good then I don't see why you should have to charge it. at least I don't mine,,,,,,,
