    Default Color Vs Black/White

I'm planning on buying a unit soon, but can't seem to make up my mind if I should stick with the traditional black/white or invest some extra $ for a color unit.

So, what are the benefits for having a color unit compared to the black/white?

    I'd rather be fishing!

I like the color for the gps function, but as far as the sonar I could read a monochrome better. Probably just inexperience.

it all varies on what your wanting to spend..there is great, good and bad in both color and black and white. but honestly if you fish alot best thing to get is one of them humingbird side imaging units such as the 797 ,997, or 1197..they are pricey but worth there weight in gold

thats what I like about my 797si, I can change the colors the way I like and even go to grayscale or use the flasher function. cant imagine what the big ones are like. I think they are no better than mine and if I am wrong please dont let me know cause it helps me sleep better. lol

I recently went through the same thought process and ended up buying a higher end black and white and am satisfied. However, the other day I went out with a friend and he has a color unit and it is so much easier to see in the sunlight (glare) than mine.

    Just my two cents.

    Default Go With Color

I have three color Lowrance units and a 797 Humminbird. Color is way better. Once you get the hang of setting sensitivity you will be able to see if structure is holding fish by how dark the colors appear on image. Darker colors mean denser structure but if you fish a lot of stakebeds as I do on Kentucky Lake you will be able to see them as a darker image them pull over them and fish for a couple of minutes and pull off then turn around and pull back over and the same structure will be lighter in color. " Why" because the fish have left. Stakebed fish can be spooked very easy so you must get them caught quickly, hince that is why the whole spider rig system is so effective. Also I can tell if I am on a school of bait or is it white bass when I guide for them in summer. Like I said color is way better and they have come a long way in seeing them in bright light compared to the earlier models.

I'm new here and don't want to bump anybodys thread, but who like LakeShelbyvilleGuide advice or opinion on which unit to buy Lowrance or Hummingbird? Looking to upgrade, just don't know what to buy.
    Thanks
It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
