The stator on older Evinrudes (1975 70hp) isn't so great anyway and mine has never been replaced so I keep batteries charged so I don't stress it much. I have stereo/VHF/Finder/Cell charger/Troller/GPS charger and sometimes lights/aerator running alot.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. :rolleyes:

I have been wondering about that myself. I've got an old blueband 500 and I have/need to charge it about every trip when it's cool or colder. In the summertime, and we're swimming and tubing it does fine with no charging. Running short trips and shutting off, in cold weather, it's not worth much-especially that first start of the morning. I've had to parallel it with the trolling battery a lot of times for that first crank.

most outbord onley put out 8 t0 10 amps . with frequint starting it could run down . i alwayes run the motor on a battery by itself . everything else is run on anothe battery . would hate to rope start a 55 hp..

I got a 300 Kawasaki 4 wheeler. You can't rope start it without the decompressor . I got a 15 hp Suzie 15 hp outboard 4 stroke. It rope starts easy (no decompressor). What the difference here?Originally Posted by papasage

Well guys, thanks for the advise. Went to Walmart last thursday, and the highes cca 24 series battery they had was 550cca.... I said well, we will see how this works. Took it to the lake Friday and it worked fine. so far so good..

I second the "dual purpose" battery suggestion. They can be charged/discharged more often...which will happen if you're running the pumps, electronics, etc for several hours at at time. This shortens battery life... more so on a "starting only" battery. Discovered this the hard way... at night a long way from the dock. Had charged it the previous trip, too.
Now use a Trojan dual purpose for starting and accessories.
