I never had any problems with the old battery running down, but since I got a 2 bank charger, I just figured I would charge it when I charged the trolling batteries.

650 should be fine. If all you are running is the pumps & motor,as long as the stator on your motor is good then I don't see why you should have to charge it. at least I don't mine,,,,,,,
