ok few little tips for getting good pictures on side imaging...

    1. adjust your chart speed to your drifting or trolling speed
    2. adjust the range on your sides. the closer in the better picture you do get.
    3. once you find what your lookiing for you can move pointer to it and it will tell you how far that peice of structure is from you

just few quick ones that will save you aggravation

Thanks John, I appreciate the help. Once you move your pointer to a object, do you take a snapshot of it and any others then come back to fish those areas before you actually mark them as waypoints.

I would like to see the unit, but I can't get out and play right now. I got stitches in my head. I prob gonna get one of them rigs. I have a 797 and it too little to see. The units work bout the same. I will be glad to go out with you one day when I can get loose. I wanna see it. I know how to push buttons. I got a place near britton ford and pump house. I will be up in a few weeks.

Power the unit up and put it in the simulator mode. Read the book and push buttons. Best way to get used to it is to know what the buttons do and learn the menus. Pretty easy.

i thinki understand the question.. to me its personal preferenece on how your fish. you could go mark a bunch of them and mark them as waypoints but thats not what i do... ill go and fish it and if its good i mark them then as way points. usually once i see the structure ill just move the pointer and see how far it is then get close enough to fish it.. they key is getting a good image and the best way is buy making your chart speed is correct and try to have your side or sides close as possible cause obviously the image will be bigger if your 50 foot from it with 51 sides instead of your sides set at 90 feet.or if you fishing from just one side of boat, just set side imaging to where it just shoots to the right

If that is not big enough you can use the video out to a 60 inch TV.

How do you mark a spot to fish without marking it as a waypoint until you are sure it is structure you want to fish??

I would like to know the answer to this as well..... I just got the 997 and marked about 50 waypoints in an hour.....it show too much! You don't think you have marked that many till you look back.

AS far as I know, Theres no way to marks something without making a waypoint. But do as I do. Go back and remove that one that you do not need.
Also as everyone else stated Read the manual and on water time is the only way to learn this unit.
I read the manual 3 or 4 times on line before even buying the unit.
Also take the manual with you on the water. That way if something you need and can't find comes up. Its easy to find it.
