    Default Humminbird & Hydrographix Maps

Anyone know if the 997 and the 979 will link up with hydrographix maps? My Garmin 178c will not do it....frustrating to have all these points and not be able to use them.

Anyone know which handhelds will connect with these maps?

    Thanks,

    Crappiehound

    Hey John,

It don't work that way. Or should I say it won't work. You can take the NEMA 0183 output from the units (gps data) and run the moving map feature of the Oziexplorer. This will turn your laptop or PDA into a mapping GPS. This is EASY to do.

You can actually run 2 (or more) GPS inputs into the laptop, open two oziexplorer windows, and view the index maps (topo) and the sidescan maps at the same time. I will show you this one day. I can drive up to anything on Ky Lake. Pretty neat. Don't mean I can catch any fish though.:D

I knew you would be the one to respond. I should have just sent ya a PM. So you are saying that I can not download waypoints from oziexplorer to a GPS unit...is that correct. I thought Paul had all his downloaded into a handheld.

Just trying to figure it out. By the way...I know you catch plenty! Hope to see you at Grizzly Jig next weekend.

    Thanks Tom

I misunderstood your question. You can download/upload waypoints/ tracks/routes to most gps units directly from oziexplorer, but not Hummingbird units. Humminbird ticks me off about this crap. Gotta use their dedicated stuff, including to-from data to the memory cards. No reason for it except greed.

I like their units, I just don't like Humminbird being so selfish with their interfaces. It is totally uncalled for or, they got the dumbest programmers in the world on staff..

I got carried away. Open Ozie, click file, click configuration, click GPS tab. This gives a list of all the gps units that interface with Ozie. You can select Nema only. It will allow you to receive nema from Humminbird, but you can't send to the Humminbird. Humminbird is not on the list. Sucks.

So basically...I need to find a handheld that will work to download my points from oziexplorer. I'll go take a look and see what will work from the list. Does ozi ever update what units will work?

    Thanks Guys,

    CH.

Yes they do. You need to update to the latest version of Ozie. You will have to select the com port too. My handheld units like ports 3 and 5. My wireless unit likes com port 8.

Tom...YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Guess I just had to ask the right questions to figure this deal out. I did the software upgrade and there my unit was. I'm downloading waypoints like a mad man! Thanks a bunch.

I have a sport map hand held that humminbird sells a cable to direct connect too. I used it on my 737 and worked very good.
