NMEA OUT is the "talker". He (she, it) don't listen to nobody. NMEA IN is the listener. You can have only one talker but many listeners with NMEA 0183.

    It is a serial communication protocol (4800 Baud, 8, 1, n).

Sure, I understand the GPX file format, but you have to go thru the removing the sd cards, running Humminbird PC program, etc before you can get this data.

Most other units, you plug in a data cable and send/receive data using Easy GPS. I have the humminbird data cable, but it is worthless underway. Can’t use it.

I use (and others also use) moving map applications. I can upload/download data to and from the GPS on the water with just a data cable for most GPS units. I don’t have to pull out any sd card and don’t have to run a special application program (on the water) to send/receive data from the GPS

The only time I use Humminbird waypoint is to set up a trolling grid.

Humminbird did not have to make a special program to transfer data. They did this to Bogart their units and force registration. I am an old EX-engineer. I know how this works.

Forced registration is not freedom of ownership. It is socialistic.

Sounds a lot like what Lowrance did when they went on there own with Nema 2000. When every one else was comfortable and still seem to be with Nema 0183.
So they all do it! one way or another!

    Not true.

NMEA 2000 is the protocol that the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) all agreed upon.

Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin, etc are all members of this association.

Humminbird deviated from the agreed protocol.
