Default when to use switchfire and why

Just curious why and when to use the hummingbird switch fire mode and what it does for you. I have tried it a few times but it had so much on the screen I could make any sense out of it. Is there an advantage using this in certain situations and do you have to make adjustments when using this mode?

Switchfire Clear is handy for shallow water applications (10ft or less)...because the unit automatically adjusts power and sensitivity for the echo returns to keep the display "Clear" and uncluttered...(but it may also filter out smaller returns that you may want to see)...

Switchfire Max is handy for deeper water applications (10ft or deeper)...because the unit allows all returns to be seen on the display...

A good rule of thumb would be...:

*Use "Switchfire Clear" in 10ft or less...and then adjust Sensitivity up until there is an acceptable amount of clutter on the display....

*Use "Switchfire Max" in 10ft or deeper ...and then adjust Sensitivity down to an acceptable amount of clutter on the screen...

Even in 20 feet of water Max shows way more than I want to see.

You need to tweak the sensitivity to the best results out of it in Max mode. It will show much more and better detail that the Clear will not show.

Thanks for the info, went out in the garage and played with it a little on my 1197and 798. Will take some more playing in the garage on the simulator and a lot of time on the water.

Probably don't use Max setting when it's windy and turbulent out.
