    Default Navionics vs lakemaster

I live in middle Tennessee and need a card for my 798. First go around with this so of course I have to bother y'all with questions. The lakemaster looks good and covers more states close to me, where with hot maps I get TN and nothing further south without a new card. Anyone can share any insight as to who's maps are better and why I would really appreciate.......Thanks, Skeet.

Check out this site. http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp This a webapp of what's available from Navionics. You can check out the coverage for any of the lakes you fish. If you see what you like, you can buy the Navionics + chip. It's a blank chip that allows you to download up to 2G of mapping in the US and Canada. You could select lakes all over the US. You do not have to pick a specific region. It also has "Sonar Charts" , so you can actually map your own lake with Humminbird combo units.

I have both. I prefer the Lakemaster. For my area northeast ohio. The particular lake maps are more accurate. Hate sitting in a spot that the map says is 28 ' and depthfinder says 17'. Navionics seems to have a more generic type of map . Lakemaster map is more defined. Dropoffs ,bars points are where they are pictured and depthfinder 99% of time agrees with map.

This is the instance in the lakes I am most familiar with. Different areas and different lakes may have different results. For instance my home lake Berlin the Lakemaster is way more accurate. Some of my favorite spots I don't even have to waymark. The lakemaster puts me right on what I am looking for.

I have a 798 too. had a navionics chip. switched to lakemaster. much better details, and if you fish a lake that the water level changes a lot , you can set the map to the current level.

I have been using Navionics Platnium on Ky Lake and just got a lakemaster and it is 10 times more accurate. The Navionics does not show 4ft drops in several areas that I fish and the lakemaster is right on.

The Lakemaster does have the advantage of having a water level offset that is not available with Navionics. This is very handy with lake levels that fluctuate a lot. If you ever upgrade to the I-pilot link, you will also have the follow the countour feature with Lakemaster.

Barring that, it is all about which one has better coverage for the lakes you fish....have to do some homework to figure that out.

Lakemaster is mapping a LOT of new lakes now.....might hold off for the 2014 edition if you have time.

I'm with BobB. LakeMaster is doing a lot of mapping right now. Don't know when they will come out with new maps but might even see some this year. The big 4 where I fish most of the time Navonics is the only way to go. Lake master has surveyed Sardis and hopefully they will do the rest before long. I'll have one when they come out with them. Definatley research where you fish to make sure they have the coverage you need before buying.

The Navionics link no longer works....will not zoom in to show contours. Guess they are on to us now

I usually run Lakemaster but it seems navionics (Just purchased used card) covers more lakes. You almost have to have both if you travel around fishing

Still working for me, although it's a little slow. Maybe they are working on it? Seems like Lakemaster is getting the nod for better maps, but Navionics gets the nod for better lake coverage nationwide. Lakemaster doesn't offer but 1 PA lake, and that's a border lake with Ohio.
