Switchfire Clear is handy for shallow water applications (10ft or less)...because the unit automatically adjusts power and sensitivity for the echo returns to keep the display "Clear" and uncluttered...(but it may also filter out smaller returns that you may want to see)...
Switchfire Max is handy for deeper water applications (10ft or deeper)...because the unit allows all returns to be seen on the display...
A good rule of thumb would be...:
*Use "Switchfire Clear" in 10ft or less...and then adjust Sensitivity up until there is an acceptable amount of clutter on the display....
*Use "Switchfire Max" in 10ft or deeper ...and then adjust Sensitivity down to an acceptable amount of clutter on the screen...
