You will want to change the ducer but the power and gps puck should work, be a different mount. 1198 has a better ducer.

If upgrading from say a 798 to 1198....Can you just simply "unplug" 798 and plug in 1198? Or does all the wiring have to be changed out?

The 798 can use the HDSI xducer that the 1198 uses ....but the 800kHz frequency will not work because the 798 doesn't have the circuitry to read it...
Some have even seen better images on their 798 with the HDSI Xducer because the longer elements create a thinner beam slice...

hawgdog you need to give me that 1198 lol. id sure like to have one
kost plus crappie team
You will need to do the following;
Change the mount, the 1198 has a gimbal mount.
Change the transducer to the 1198 transducer.
Install the external GPS puck/antenna that comes with the 1198, the 798 has an internal antenna.
The power cord from the 798 should work with the 1198
I mis-read the OP (the user is going from the 798 to the 1198...not the other way around as I read it)...
I aplogize for the misunderstanding...
These guys above are correct...you will have to change from the installed "compact" Xducer that comes with the 798 to the HDSI Xducer that the 1198 needs..
My bad guys...oops!!
