Can someone tell me what system I have?
HDS5. I thought it was a Gen 2. Then maybe not because it doesn't say that at start up.
I looked a lot on different sites to no avail with no direction.
Can anyone tell me (maybe) by serial numbers?
Didn't it start out as HDS5, then go to HDS5 Gen1, and then HDS5 Gen2?
I'm so screwed up, don't know what I want or have. (new boat)
How do I tell the difference?
I love my LMS 332C

FisherMike,
If I am not mistaken the Lowrance letters on the front of the unit will be black on the Gen 1 and will be White on the Gen 2.
My Gen 2 has Gen 2 on the front of them. I have a hds7 and hds8.
Thank you for that. Now I'm going back to the barn and checking. I believe there lighter then the background.
While I'm at it,, what's your thoughts on leaving a Lowrance in storage, in below freezing for a period of time?
I'm from MI. and I don't have to do that but. Someone else may have no choice.
Mike

Typical over the counter purchased ICs (chips) I personally use have a storage range of -55C to 155C. My concern would be the display. These sonar screens are much tougher than laptop screens. Laptops will freeze and crack.
Call Lowrance tech support. Don't take my word for this.
PS
Don't mention my name. They might hang up on you.

Well that's what I thought. But I was at BPS the other day looking at a Gen 2 ( that's what the salesman said) and it didn't say Gen 2 on the unit nor does mine.
I'll keep digging though.
Thanks guys.
CP you are the man.
CP I was just looking at your link and that Gen2 doesn't say it on the unit either.
I was under the impression you could tell by the colors of the plugs.

BNV1 the lettering on mine are black.
Maybe that is the key.
I just shot Lowrance an e-mail with the ser. number.
Now we'll see how long it takes to get an answer.
