Go to the settings, scroll and highlight ABOUT ​and write down the Application number....

Go to this page and you can see that Gen1 starts with 4.1 and Gen2 starts with 1.1. This is assuming the units are somewhat up to date software wise. Application is the software (firmware) revision of your unit. There is a significant spread in there Gen1 and Gen2 app numbers.

The HDS-5 is a Gen1. The LSS-1 and LSS-2 HD is both compatible with the unit.

Now one more question.
Does anyone know what Lowrance did with there emulators? I've been all over there site looking.
