I use a PD v2 70LB with ipilot on a 18ft Ranger--works good--would like the 80lb terrova--but the PD 70lb works just fine.

I would be very surprised if you bought the Terrova 80lb and were disappointed. You've read more than I have, no doubt. I have met folks that didn't like the PD system, 2 in fact. Both were very set in their ways and really didn't want to go thru the learning curve. I have a 17'8" bass boat and the smaller 24volt TM would almost hold me in place when alone, even in a gusting wind, but the motor was running full out. I have a 70lb Riptide that keeps it where I want it and generates 2.8 mph gps when alone. It's money well spent. Hardest part is getting the price past the book keeper. That motor and medium level side image and you're good for quite some time to come.

I absolutely love my 24volt 80 pound thrust MinnKota Terrova I pilot on my Ranger Angler 1760.
I have a 24V v2 70#. I like. I like the Terrova except for the big azz- big foot- foot pedal. Takes up half the boat.

I've got a Terrova I-Pilot 36 V 101 # thrust on my 18 ft bass boat (Fiberglass) and I love it. The best piece of equipment on the boat.
I use spot lock more than any other feature. That's because I gets hung up as lot and I don't finesse jigs out of brush. Yank and crank. Come in with blanks a lot, but with the spot lock I ain't 500 feet from where I wanted to be when I was retiring. Best thing since Viagra.

Ok my uncle bought the TM.. So one more question can anyone answer if the 45" terrova be ok on my boat?
Don't worry about getting a shaft that's longer than you think you need--especially if that gets you a price break. When I bought mine, the 60" shaft was part of the bundle that gave me the features I wanted and the best price. Originally, I planned to cut the shaft down 6" to 12". After using it for a while, however, I realized that it's easier to raise the motor when you have a foot or more of shaft above the mounting bracket.
I got the 60" because sometimes I fish in rough water. If I'm in waves that bring the prop out of the water, I shouldn't be out fishing in that kind of water!!!!
I, like Corker put the 54 on mine and thought I would cut it down if need be. It sticks up quite a bit but wouldn't think of cutting it down. Makes it so much easier to retrieve the motor and I spider rig 90% of the time and not once has it interfered with the fishing. If you ever fish really rough water the longer the better. Also if you decide to pull cranks with it you will want it a lot lower in the water.
