I am glad to read this thread, I have a 789hd, internal anteanna, and it is doing the same thing. mine is 1.5 years old and I am quite dissapointed, as well. I guess mine is out of warranty by now so I will probably have to pay for repairs? crapola!

You might see if you can try someone's external antenna on your unit. If it's just the internal antenna that failed, it might be cheaper to just buy and install an external antenna.

OK,,here's the deal, I sent my unit back to Eufaula per instructions by lady at humminbird, with the return arth. she supplied, she had told me it would be on its way back in 3 to 5 business days. Hours after shipping, Michael @ universalmania called me, said he was sorry about my problem and that he was shipping me another unit as we spoke. I told him I had already shipped my bird to Eufaula, he said he had shipping me a new unit, that when I recieved mine back from humminbird to send it on to him.Great news right? The new unit arrived from, Michael as promised, I installed it on my boat, OH, and I only sent the head to humminbird, as requested...I took boat to lake,,all worked great..then yesterday Fedex delivered my unit from Eufaula, with a notation, service tech found no problems with the unit, ran it, and returned it.
There WAS a problem with the unit and I suspect that there still will be a problem..something must be loose inside the unit, my thinking anyway. Now Michael will get the new unit back..showing 1 hour of use...what a frigging mess..,I will contact Michael first thing Monday morning. Humminbird service tech did run my unit as it shows 5 hrs. now on the run time. I just hope it don't go crazzy next time out,,or a few days after warrenty expires..Thats my update..kudus to humminbird for exceptional return time, 6 days all told.

I imagine Universalmania was going to send your unit back to H/B as defective anyhow. Even if repaired properly, he wouldn't be able to sell it as a new unit. Kudo's to Universalmania for shipping you a new one. That's where I bought my unit last Sept. Hope you are good to go now!

I believe that HB has got some bad Internal GPS receivers. I have a new 788 HD DI that the GPS is not working properly. I also have 3 friends that have bought 700 series units in the last year that are having GPS problems. I also had to send a 797 back a few of years ago GPS problems.

I have all the faith in the world in HB's Customer Service. They have always done me right. My only grip is having to pay another shipping charge on a Unit that I just paid over $20 to get it shipped to me 2 months ago. It has not gotten a good signal since I installed it.

I'd really like humminbird greg to weigh in on this, I see it as either my dealer, universalmania getting a unit they can't sell as new, either way, as both have been connected. I assumed, that since my unit had 4 hours on it, they would ship me a new unit, which would have been forwarded to universalmania, problem solved. But when I recieved my old unit with this on the invioce "Tech comment (no problem found) unit was allowed to run and GPS was connected" I had ran through the procedure outlined by you folks, also by the humminbird people when I called for the return authorization, she said it had a internal defect, as the GPS was internal. Otherwise, I would have impatiently waited for my unit to be returned..at least another unit wouldn't have been involved. Your comments are welcome. I certainly can't afford to purchase another unit.
