What voltage is the unit reading out to you? You can have 12 volts at the battery for the motor to crank but that doesn't mean it is getting to your GPS unit.

Have you called Lowrance CS yet? You could also go to Bass Boat Centeral and find Jason Gilstrap.
When the starting battery went bad on my boat last year I was on the bow fishing. My HDS 8 started going from bright to dim, the first thing I thought was it was getting ready to die. I put everything away to leave and went to start the boat and had nothing. As soon as I hit the key the two units on the console went off. The battery gave no warning, no slow starting or anything, just the front ff going from dim to bright.
