OK, my gen 1 has worked flawless along with the structure scan since installed. Updates installed and have never had any issues. Over the weekend, the "reboot" issue popped up. I checked all wiring and everything looks good. It could be some corrosion at the battery, but cleaned it with emory cloth and still rebooting. Power on battery is good, (consistantly above 10 volts)
Here's another twist, since the original and only installation of my HDS-8, I wired the LSS1 to a separate Marine grade LED lighted switch and it's worked everytime....until yesterday. The LED Switch is getting power, but I get a NO SOURCE showing on the screen. Once again, all connections check out and I've don't have any damage to the LSS1 transducer.
Tom, Jason, anyone?

A consistent reading of volts on the battery does not necessarily mean the battery is good..
It might be a good idea to load test the battery....with 1 of these....

Don't think spending money that could go towards a new battery is smart. I might let AutoZone test it, but I don't think anything is wrong with the battery either since it cranks the big motor like a big dog.

Check your LSS1 leds (yellow) This is the link active indicator led. If it ain't flashing, check your ethernet connections. !0v is marginal at best. If the headset is rebooting, this can be caused by low voltage. Specs are 10 to 18v I believe, so that puts you on the low end as all have stated. If you have the LSS1 and the head unit wired to the same battery source, you can meter voltage at the HDS head unit cable. That would be the 2 big pins. Metering an open ended cable don't tell you chit without some load.

Even connected to the battery charger, it rebooted at least 10 times before it finally booted. The charger shows the battery as fully charged. I don't know if the LSS1 has power yet or not. I do know the LED switch is lighting up that I have wired separately to be able to turn it on and off. Wiring to it looks good, but haven't taken a meter to the switch leg yet, too stinkin hot in the shop.
I've got to purchase a new battery for the trolling motor this week. I guess I'll hook it up to the HDS8 and see if it makes any difference. I did find one thing during a search that mentioned the range rings on the GPS turned on might be causing part of the reboot problem.
I've experienced the unit rebooting when the battery is getting low before, but never reboot, after reboot, after reboot, etc.... Several other rebooting instances I've read about have ended up sending their unit back to Lowrance. Guess I'm lucky I live where I do. I can hand deliver it about 35 miles from me in Tulsa. I'll let you know what shakes.

The "No Source" Issue is fixed. I disconnected the transducer and reconnected, walla. I don't think there is any corrosion since I keep the boat garaged. The reboot could be battery, but like I said, the times before I knew it was a low battery because starting the motor (the load) would draw too much power and it would reboot. This is almost like it's having some sort of hardware/software issue. The rebooting I'm having is with no load at all and a charger feeding the battery 10 amps. Think I'll wait until this evening. I'm picking up the new trolling motor battery after work.
I recently deleted all my waypoints ad trails since the brush in the area I fish shifted quite a bit from spring rains, and a group of other C.Cer's built and dropped 25 new piles Saturday morning, so it's not like I lost anything. At least the structurescan is alright and now I can pinpoint all the new drops.
