    Default Terrova 80 problems

Im having problems with my Terrova 80 loosing power if I run it for over 3 minutes on #5 (or higher) dial setting. It will beep and reset itself in 1-5 minutes. My boat is a 2000 Triton TR-19 with factory wires and I'm running 50 amp fuses. Minn Kota recommends 60 amp but my 50 never trips. I'm thinking it has 8 gauge wire but do I measure the diameter of the copper only without the insulation to determine wire gauge?

    Thanks,
    Bart

If you look on the insulation the gauge should be imprinted on the cable, it may be faint but its there, it should be marked at least every 2 ft sometimes every foot. I hope this helps, also I would look at the specs on their website, triton that is, it should tell. Good luck with it and let us know what you find. Oh if by chance its 6 gauge you will know without a doubt, its as big as the cable on your car battery.

OK... I got 6 awg wire going to the TM and each cable checks 12V at the bow. I've directly wired the TM to these wires to eliminate the plug in and it still looses power... Any ideas or suggestions??

If the tm is new I'd contact a MinnKota service center and let them fix it.

Between your 2 wires going to the motor, you should have 24volts. Perhaps you've got something crazy in the wiring like the batteries in parallel instead of in series.

Also did the boat use to have a 12/24 motor on it and if it did are you still using the original socket?

You should not be reading voltage on each wire....one should be the ground or negative wire and the other should be 24 volts. The Terrova 80 is a 24 volt motor so it has to have the batteries wired in series......also you say circuit breakers ( plural)......to wire properly you only need one circuit breaker.
