Love this forum , Lots of knowledge. from people willing to share. If I get a new trolling motor with variable speed control and maximiser. Will I automatically get interferance off the trolling motor mount.?....... Maybe someone else thought Structure Scan had to be bought at time of purchasing a Lowrance depthfinder. but can be added later per BPS. ......I have a hand held Garmin GPS and am considering a HB 596c hd di or a Lowrance Elite 5x DSI. I understand Lowrance doesn't have 2d and HB doesn't zoom on DI. Anything else I need to consider. Thanks for any input

Interference is a monster that can come from from many different sources ...only 1 of which may be the TM.....
Each boat is different..because each boat has different wiring routing, electronics setup, etc...
You could actually be 1 of the lucky ones that has no interference issues at all....
Install your choice of TM and electronics to best suit your fishing methods...and see what happens....
Structure Scan (which adds SI and DI) is an add on module feature of Lowrance that can be purchased later...
I think the Lowrance Elite 5x DSI is a DI only unit that doesn't need the Structure Scan module...Only the HDS models are "Structure Scan" module upgradeable..(I don't own L so someone correct me here if I'm wrong)...
The product manual for the 596 does not mention DI zoom ...(the pic shows no zoom buttons on the unit face)
but the manual for the 597 does mention DI zoom...the pic does show zoom buttons on the unit face
This pic is from the 597 manual...

I own the 597hd/di.yes it does zoom in the di mold.it will zoom on the di part of the spit screen view.it will zoom on the full screen di view also.yes from what ive been reading hare, theres a good chance that you will have some interference to deal with.my unit is mounted on the trolling motor.yes i have had interferencebut pretty much tweaked my out.yes all manufacturers have isues with interference.yes i really like my unit
The only way to tell is to install it and see. Mine did not give me any trouble for almost a year. Then the lines appeared one day and I grounded the trolling motor to negative ground and it has since been back to a clear image. Good luck.
The link below is to a PDF file that I used to walk me through it. It can explain it much better than I could try by typing it out.
