    Default Help with humminbird selection

I am looking for a humminbird model to replace the 585C I have on the front. I need a model that will mount on the 585C base and use the US2 transducer in my terrova. I need GPS. I also need to network it with my 898 C SI so I can share waypoints. Sidescan and downscan not necessary. Does such an animal exist and if so what is the model number. Thanks!TS

I believe the 700 series and up can be networked but I am not positive. I think the 788 might be the one you need.

I have a 788C on the bow of my boat that does all you are looking for. Mine is a pre-side scan model but it links thru the Interlink to my 898 on the console.

You will need to buy the inter link when you upgrade your unit to get the waypoint sharing.
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.

I have the exact setup mrdux has. Will do what you are looking for.

I would go with the 788ci HD Combo model and make the Ethernet connection between it and your 898c Si unit.
You will also need the following cables for the Ethernet connection (which will cost less than the InterLink module will):
AS-EC-QDE 700 Series Ethernet Adapter Cable
AS-EC-2E, AS-EC-10E, AS-EC-20E or AS-EC-30E Ethernet Connection Cable – this comes in four different sizes: 2 ft., 10 ft., 20 ft. and 30 ft.

Greg - Will hooking them up with ethernet cable do anything more or less than using the InterLink? If they do the same thing, then why have the InterLink? Thanks!

If you are linking through ethernet, you don't need interlink. So far, I've found ethernet to be more reliable than interlink ever was.

Interlink's advantage was a common storage for waypoints created from either unit. With ethernet, the waypoints are stored in the unit that marked it. As long as both units are powered up and connected to each other, you can see the other unit's waypoints. If you shut one of the units down, you will not be able to see it's waypoints on the other unit.

Stymie is right in what he stated. With Ethernet you can also share GPS receivers (you can with InterLink too but that’s it), temperature readouts and sonar. Ethernet will also has the capability of being expanded for other shared features and new accessories that the InterLink cannot. Basically the InterLink is what it is and I doubt will receive any more functionality.

We came out with the InterLink before we went with the Ethernet connections. This allowed us to keep unit costs down (as not everyone wants to share data between units) while providing shared waypoint and GPS Receiver data between two units that had no other means of unit-to-unit communication. Ethernet is a much better replacement for InterLink.
