Retry and Cancel are the options I have. Retry does nothing and Cancel undoes everything up to that point.

In laymans terms, I cannot get the Update to the SD card unless it's in unopened form. If it's in unopened form, the 8 will not recognize it and install.

Any ideas?

Don,t understand your terms but my puter says its loaded and can,t get it on the sd card

I re-read the instructions. It said to D/L onto a blank SD card. I did this and it took without the errors.

i think i have been successful getting it to the SD card, but when i put it in the HDS unit and then power it on I dont see anything going on. I left it in there for several minutes then took it out and re booted the unit then, go check the software part in the unit and iot still shows the old version. I have wiped the SD card 3 times and went thru the whole procees 3 times now and dont seem to be downloading on the HDS unit. Has anyone been successful with getting 4.0 loaded on the HDS yet? Does the HDS unit show something when loading or fully downloaded?

Did you get the Icon (blue with a 1/4 white moon) your computer? If so, click on this Icon. This is the installer program that puts the update on your sd card. When this installer programs starts to run, it will ask you where you want to install the update. Use browse and set your sd drive letter, then click copy. Probably have to click copy again if windows defender jumps up.

As the update installs on the unit, the progress is shown on the HDS screen. When finished, remove the sd card first, then push the power button. This will restart the unit and it does not power down when you do this operation, but restarts the HDS.

Did you download the update from the website directly to your SD card ?If so that is your problem.

i clicked the run program not the save. It goes thru the 252 MB takes about 25 minutes then walks you thru install wizard, then says sucessfully loaded on SD card. I then take the card put in the HDS5 and nothing happens. I have now done this 4 times and after every time i have formatted the sd card to clear the files, and start the download again.
dont get any errors or anything. Dont know if i am doing something wrong, or the SD card isnt getting something, or if the HDS unit isnt downloading for some reason.

I did the upgrade a little over a year ago and didnt have any problems.

When the file is in your SD card, has it been opened yet? It should show a sims folder, an update folder and something else I think. If it shows these files, then your 5 should pick up on them during startup. If the file has not been opened, it will not pick up on the update.

I downloaed this from lowrance web site takes a while. Put in hds8 installed no problem.

Thanks for the responses.
I went to a differant computer and a differant card had to do the download from an air card and it took about 10 hours to download, then transfered to the new card and put it in the unit this morning and all is good to go. I guess there was something with the other computer that it didnt like. Dont know why i never got a error.
Good news i now have 4.0 on my HDS 5 and also loaded it on a buddies HDS unit this morning. Now i just need to do my 7 and my 8 that are on the boat.
