I assume some of these are bait fish, especially the first pic. Not for sure about the last two.

    Thoughts?

    Great pics...

I'm guessing the 2 smaller balls on the left side of the first pic might be game fish...

And the single elongated white returns on the second pic and the right side of the third pic are scattered game fish..

All the others..I would guess as bait balls...

Thanks for chiming in. While interesting to see this when on the lake it leaves me guessing a lot more than I used to before seeing these shots. I imagine it's just like anything else and you have to develop an eye for what you're seeing.

I try to ratio aspect (in my head) my side view distance with the size of the suspected fish return on the SI image..

If my side distance is set to 20 ft each side (like when I'm in 5 ft of water) a suspected fish return will look a lot larger than a suspected fish return when my side distance is set to 75 ft each side (like when I'm in 13 ft of water)....

I try to keep my side distance around 4 times my water depth for best images.....

Shadows (if they show) are a good indication that the white return you are seeing is actually fish...bait balls usually have a big overall shadow that you can't pick out individual fish with their individual shadow...

Once you get an idea how big a actual fish return is in relation to the image distance that you are covering..you'll be more able to determine what might be fish....

Thanks Rickie, I'll keep those thoughts in mind.
