Have to agree with Reaper. And the last HDS update gave 3-way split screen to the HDS 7 and 5, they didn't neglect the HDS-5 and made it awesome. The 5 also has a 2 year warranty.

and have to agree with CP, I gave the donut some time to be taken care of, but I'll be getting a delivery Thursday of a new HDS-7 with insight, and within the next week I'll order a Basemap HDS-7 to pair it up. Gonna be selling 2 HDS-5's with Insight that are both around 1 year old, if anyone is on the fence, and wants to buy one of these, PM me. Thumbs Up

You're welcome. If I can egg anyone else along to get rid of their H/B, feel free to ask for help! :D I had issues with Lowrance, and moved on rather than spend my days beating a dead horse. H/B gave their response to the question on the donut, not sure why folks can't understand that. I'm glad there are a few folks that did understand, and have made to move to another product. Congratulations!

If you and TMike continue to run folks who might complain, or want improvements made, then all current and future sales would go down to 0. Very few will continue to buy based on faith alone. I just upgraded from HDS-5's to 7's because of the donut, and you and Tmike.

If 2011 market growth is as bad for HB, I think you'll see the donut become and option, or go away.

Let's see, It seems to be an issue only with crappie fishermen, and we have about 30 to 50 folks complaining about the donut here on the largest crappie site. Now if every one of them moved to another product, Humminbird sales would fall to zero? I'd have to guess they sell more than 50 units a year. PS. Faith alone kept Lowrance still in business when their reputation was on the slide downhill. Faith still must be working for them, as Cabelas has had refurbished HD Lowrance units on sale for more than a month. Dang, they must have had a gang of duds returned.

one less complainer,so their reputation is getting better all the time,i remember when tran sducers where breaking all the time to,rooster tail from transom si transducers, the first time out with my si unit and boat was full of water from running up and down lake and rooster tail from transducer was going in boat.i believe everyone has complained about the big readouts because u might as well have a small screen with the big readouts ,have they fixed that yet,i can keep going all night but as far as im concerned my problem will be fixed next week hehe

Not fighting here, just stating facts go be fair.

Regarding the refurb units at Cabela's: When you send your HDS unit in under warranty, you get a Brand new unit back. They don't repair it, they replace it. HB will repair your unit and send you the refurbished unit back. This is not a good argument for you to make about HB, You'll always have a refurb, and people will get a nice discount buying refurb HDS units. Thumbs Up

There's 30 to 50 users that have been vocal, there may be 100's or 1000's of potential "Lurker" buyers. Those are the ones that are being driven off when you and Tmike present an agitated "love it or leave it" stance.

And since this is turning into a Bash on Lowrance, Name one thing about the HDS systems that has drawn complaints like the donut. I'd say Lowrance is doing "A Lot" right. Look at the new HB extra year of warranty program. Give if whatever fancy name you want, it's an attempt to catch up with the 2yr Lowrance Warranty.

I hope HB makes an attempt to appease the Crappie/slow troll market, and soon you'll see an update. Then the donut will be laid to rest where it belongs.

Ya think Lowrance just decided to give everyone a 2 year warranty because they were good guys? They offered the 2 year warranty to try and get a bigger share of the market. If you believe any company offers up a longer warranty to be nice guys, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Some folks don't like the donut, and some folks don't like Chevy's, Ford's or Dodge's because of certain features they don't like. It's as simple as that. I'd say H/B has had enough time to make the change if they felt the need too, evidently they don't.

You said it all there Shellback, if they thought it was worth fixing, they would have. But I don't think you can use the Ford/Chevy argument with Fishing electronics, because of the 300 million people in the USA, I'm going to guess small, and say 100 million of them own an automobile, and if there's a million that own autos, how many own fishing electronics? 1 million? How many buy new units every year or 2?

Those 50-100 people, plus 100-1000 lurkers make a difference. Those numbers get narrow really fast. I'm just going to guess that the Marketing Director and CFO at Johnson Outdoors do not share the opinion of you and TMike inviting customers to switch to Lowrance.
