Thread: Project "HB Donut"

Have to agree with Reaper. And the last HDS update gave 3-way split screen to the HDS 7 and 5, they didn't neglect the HDS-5 and made it awesome. The 5 also has a 2 year warranty.

and have to agree with CP, I gave the donut some time to be taken care of, but I'll be getting a delivery Thursday of a new HDS-7 with insight, and within the next week I'll order a Basemap HDS-7 to pair it up. Gonna be selling 2 HDS-5's with Insight that are both around 1 year old, if anyone is on the fence, and wants to buy one of these, PM me. Thumbs Up

So were to believe you would have bought a humminbird if they replace the donut? Why your so against humminbird that just about everypost about humminbird you gotta chip in with something about lowrance? Just wondering if your getting paid by lowrance or what. I use my stuff to find fish, cover, or bait. Humminbird makes that easier for me to do so. I agree that lowrance may have more options. And the people that buy humminbird know of all these options that lowrance has. But I and others still choose to buy the humminbird unit. Why is that?

I can say for me my early lowrance products did leak water into the units. One unit cut on and off all night and killed my starting battery. I didn't get the response from lowrance i wanted so i moved on.

I keep hearing that lowrance 2d is so much better. I don't see it. What's so much better? my unit show's fish when there are fish. And show's the bottom. What else to you want from 2d? It show's strong retuns from larger fish, smaller returns from bait. I don't really see a huge difference.

I gotta say i've been very happy with my side imaging. I have a friend with a hds8 and we go back and forth all the time. I've played with the hds8 on his boat alot and i'm really not that impressed. He has no idea how to set his unit up. I feel like my unit is alot easier to use. But that's MY unit.

Not sure you lowrance guys really have a dog in this fight over the donut issue is all I'm saying. If you were completly happy with your unit. Why are you worried about what humminbird is doing with there donut?

Let me give you my history. My first SI unit was HB. My Second SI unit was HB. Liked the SI and 2d Just fine, but even in the early days when I was dropping structure, and started fishing tournaments, there it was. The donut. Before I knew what it was, I thought my unit was broken. From there, I added a garmin. It worked fine. I added less expensive Lowrance units. Then one day the HDS system came out. I could afford an HDS-5 only. Right away I noticed that I could sit right on my structure. Then came the LSS-1 and another HDS-5. Then the updates started rolling out.

Then others started complaining about the donut. I knew I wasn't alone. Then Shellback and TMike said, if you don't like the donut, switch to Lowrance. Then I saved enough cash that I knew I could upgrade electronics if I sold my current setup. I ordered and HDS-7, then hinted on BBC about selling my 5's with insight, and mentioned a more then fair price. Didn't even get to list them, they sold within 8 hours.

The point is, you don't know what I've had, and what I might buy, but when Shellback, and a "sponsored" TMike steer me, and almost beg me to go to Lowrance, and HB shows ZERO interest in correcting this,

What do you thing I'm going to do? I wish Lowrance Paid me for what I say, I could have just saved a whole heap of money. I've been accused several times of taking money from Lowrance. I thing that's funny, HB faithful just can't fathom the thought that some know the difference.

If anyone from Lowrance reads this, I'd love to replace the HDS-7's I just bought with some 8's for free.

I still have to believe that there is something terribly wrong with the fact that "satisfied" HB owners are telling "unsatisfied" HB owners to buy Lowrance.

Because judging by the number of complaints about the donut here on CC.com, it's not a significant issue, and we are tired of reading about a small number of peoples complaints. So please, if you aren't satisfied, buy something that makes you happy. Canepole, did, Mduncan did, and I went from Lowrance to H/B.
Seems most complainers think it's a simple software fix. Well maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. H/B has been made aware of the issue by Canepole probably 2 years ago. They have had ample time to do a simple software fix. So it's either not a simple fix, or they have other reasons for not making the fix.
I think the time of notifying H/B or getting sympathy from folks to get the fix, is over. It's just a whine now.

You'd think that if you love HB, you wouldn't want prospective buyers seeing you say that people should buy Lowrance. Maybe HB will take care of this in the next update, and this will be solved and melt away into the archives. Thumbs Up

If a person that a company that I ran sponsored showed that attitude, especially on a public forum he’d be cut off. He basically told anyone that questioned HB to take a flying leap.

I'm not sponsored, and it's a public forum, so I'm telling it like it is. The point has been made to H/B, but people continue on and on and on about fixing the donut. There has been plenty of time for H/B to make a fix if they feel it's needed. It's kinda like the saying, " What part of no don't you understand?"

If everyone in this world had just said OK to being told no, we'd be a lot worse off then we are today. It almost feels like you expect obedience to HB from owners and future owners, or never question HB. You, Ricky, anyone should be able to expect HB to make changes, to at least reflect the industry standard. My Auto GPS doesn't have a big problem with me stopping, it doesn't get lost.
