HB could just fix the donut, and make owners happy. You'd tell HB owners to get over it, or buy another brand? Lowrance doesn't repair your HDS unit, they send you a new one. Then the repaired units are resold with a 1yr warranty. When you send the HB unit in, you get a Humminbird refurb unit back. If you spend 1-3 thousand dollars per unit, I think you should be happy with it, and this thread serves as a starting point for new buyers, and a way for current/former HB owners to address their feelings/concerns about the donut.

Have new HB 798 si HD and the donut is a problem for me. Part of the time it sits across from a Lowrance LCX113 c HD. I do lot of trolling for catfish and crappie at less than .5 mph. The Lowerence is better at direction but in less than year after I purchased a $2500 Lowrance unit it is obsolete and no updates. I like my HB very much but do wish we could at least improve the direction problem. The HB knows where it is and where it is going just has delay in getting it on screeen. The recorded track is the same and very accurate on both units. My Minn Kota trolling motor knows where it is within 5 feet. Check one again a buoy.
Yes keep thread going we need fix form Hummingbird.

jd....The only thing I could add to your thoughts is the hope that HB would update the units so that the "Donut" could be "user selectable"...some people actually find the "Donut' as an advantage in their fishing tactics as Doug V pointed out earlier in the thread....changing the donut to a tracking icon would satisfy some while hindering others...

A "user selectable" tracking icon / donut would be the best of both worlds for those fishermen that use the icon in their preferred method of fishing....

Just like (in the not-so-distant-past) where HB made the water column "user selectable" with the new "Contour Feature"....removing the water column has been a pet peeve/wish list item for a lot a fishermen for a long time....it frequently came up in discussion on the SI boards...over and over again...and HB finally addressed it with a "user selectable" water column called "Contour Feature"....this simple software update probably gained HB some extra sales.....

The very same methodology of a "user selectable" tracking icon/ donut could be incorporated for the "Donut"....

    We slow trollers keep hoping...

    Patience and persistence...

Good luck guys. After 3-4 years, I quit Humminbird. I received final "installment" payment on my last HB the other day and gave up the unit, etc. I truly believe the donut is a programmer ego gig. I still have a lot of HB misc. stuff, but most is spoken for. Details to follow later about parts. I gotta round stuff up (between storms).

I may eventually die with a "Donut" in my mouth.....but ....

I still have hope that HB can listen to their customers....(or realize their loss of customers)

I would have bought new HB stuff if they had fixed the donut......Couple my buds here got fed up with it. crappiehunter and crappiestalker by name. They both now use garmin gps.

You may be seeing more HB for sale before long. Donut issues.

Why would anyone expect an update? Did the unit perform as advertised? I've had different units over the years and not once ever expected there to be future updates until I went HDS. As for being obsolete, what does not become obsolete these days when it comes to anything electronic? Even then, I knew what I was buying, if an update comes out, that's even better.

As for the donut, I would think the Hbird would at least try to provide a D/L for anyone interested in changing their position logo when going slow.
