I know gps has problems at low speeds (below 1mph) due to limitations of the system. But I believe there are programs that "work around" the errors and give good estimates of direction and average speed. That's my story.

question;;;;; does lowrance use some program to do this
i no that my garmin gpsmap76csx doesnt. when i slow down or stop it starts wondering all over. to much to stay on coarse with it or stay on a brush pile. if hummingbird could make this work that would be great.
Hey guys I want to give an Attaboy for this thread as I posted earlier I didnt know what the donut was until this thread helped me learn what it was. Anyway I saw a friend I dont get to talk to alot today and we were talking gps units and we talked about H.B. he wants to put a another gps on his boat. He already has an I think X-15 now, so I brought up the donut and he didnt know what I was talking about so I explained what the donut was and told him to look up C.Com and read this thread, so I think this thread has just helped another person out.
This is definately 1 of the unanswered questions the focus of "Project HB Donut" hopes to understand eventually....
How does the competition work around the "Donut" in a cost competitive unit...??
We, as yet, really don't know...proprietary info of the industry....I'm sure...
The answer may very well be described in the info in the link CP provided...

My hope is that eventually someone "in the know" will step forward and bring this info into the conversation....
I sure would like to know....

Rickie (an almost satisfied HB owner)[/QUOTE] ya'll dont take this wrong,me asking the questions i like the ideal of a gps working at .4 miles per hour, but i still dont have proof of any of hummingbirds competitors doing this. i asked a person at work today that has a fairly new lowrance unit with gps,how his worked at low speeds.he told me basically the same thing that my garmin gps does his lowrance does. once you slow down or stop it just starts moving all around.the only difference with the hummingbird is that the software they have just shuts down at low speeds so as to keep you from this incorrectness. ive tryed useing my garmin at these speeds.it kindof looks like it works but it really doesnt do very well
The folks saying what I am saying below .5mph. Same setup I have. HDS with lcg4000. So doubt all you want.
