    I have the internal antenna. Nothing else hooked up. I do have the extra cord wrapped several times around the base of the unit. Could that be interfering?

    No that would not cause any interference for this Kman. You should have noticed a difference in GPS performance levels. Not sure why it would not be working and I know of no way that you could test it to see if it is actually working faster.
