Bend in a creek channel should be good place. Try to drop in different places to give you options to get out of the wind too.

I catch all my crappie in spring(crappie are shallow)thru summer crappie are 20ft or so, but my spots don't have any structure for winter pool. should i drop my bamboo condo's(15-20ft tall) close to these areas in 25ft of water or at the closest bend in the channel,?? any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm 2yrs into crappie fishing(been an avid bass tounament angler for 15yrs) since i purchased a HB SI unit and can easily find crappie and most of the time catch them. I just want to know if i drop these condo's close to proven spots will they still work in the late fall winter. I would also like to know some ways to catch suspended crappie, i can find them with my HB SI but can't catch them by casting, been getting rod holders for spider rigging.

I like creek & river channel bends and junctions myself to place beds. Bluffs on the outside channel bend seem to hold a lot of crappie here in the winter. The few road beds around close to where I fish mostly have standing timber along them and they get fished pretty heavy. If I placed a bed on them, I be sharing with all the retired guys around here.

Don`t know the lake but often deeper edges of dormient weed beds can be productive ASSUMING they are deep enough, many lakes the fertility of the water won`t allow this; in old gravel pits YES. Underwater SPRINGS are an EXCELLENT spot for cover; the trick is confirming them with a weighted thermometer. But IF you can LOCATE 1....load it up !

Thanks for the info, the lake is Nolin River lake in So. Central Ky, no weed beds but good creek and river channels and lots of rock of all sizes and rock to sandy transitions, standing timber, etc. There's some awesome river channel bends beside bluff walls that should be great in Nolin. by the way, if you want to see some of my Side imaging pictures of crappie on structure, i posted them on the Hb 798 side imaging forum in fishing and electronics photography Thanks again for the help Lowellhturner and pomme guy

We have been trying to place cover on the transitions, and also on humps, RR beds, Creek beds, etc BEFORE the deep areas.
If we find an area that is 15' deep and drops to 25', then goes back up to 10-15', we try to place cover right on the edges before the drop-off. You tend to have the best of both worlds in this case...the fish use the deeper areas of STRUCTURE for suspending and migrating during patterns, and the cover will draw and hold them between patterns. Putting cover on the side of drop-offs that go from 5-15', or 10-20' has been also very good, also transitions to feeding flats!
