What gets me is when some people eat my Hush puppys. And then ask for the recipe. I tell them Whiskey or beer. And that turns them off. Man it cooks out out of them. But does give them a good taste. Wild turkey works great.

Nothing measured, just experience. Yellow corn meal, an egg, chopped bale peppers, chopped onions, 1/2 can whole kernal corn (drained), plenty of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, milk, little salt(fish is already fairly salty), black pepper. If you want them to have a little kick then add chopped jalopenos in place of the bale peppers. Gooder'n S%#t!!:D
1 cup yellow self rising cornmeal
1/2 cup self rising flour
1 medium onion chopped
1 egg
1 can beer
salt peper and garlic powder to taste
misc. amount parsly flakes
Beat egg. add onion and stir till coated. Add cornmeal and flour stir till coated. Should look like battered onion. (more onion than batter) Should be a little dry. Add a little beer, may have to add more cornmeal. Should not be runny. Let set for an hour or so and stir and cook at 375.

Will fish for food!
I wish I could find the receipe for puppies I used to eat at a few restraunts in NC years back. They were sweet and didn't have any onions etc. in them. Several restraunts served them with honey butter as appetisers before the main course. If you weren't careful you'd fill up on them before getting your main course. Hmmmm Hmmmmm Goooood!
I like hot water cornbread with fish too.
2C cornmeal
2C boiling water
2t baking powder
salt and pepper to taste
mix dry ingredients and stir in boiling water. Mix thoroughly. Let stand to cool. Form patties or rolls from dough and deep fat fry.
I tried this one, it was great but I did double the corn meal to 4 cups, it was a little runny. but it was wonderfulOriginally Posted by Cane Pole

I love this thread, my Grandmother used to run a kennel and she made hush puppies for the dogs, my brother and I got quite good at snitching them while they were cooling. THAT was before the days of self rising anything. Well anything to cook with
Looks a lot like Cane Poles without the corn, cheese, and pepper. I don't use sugar either, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
This place always makes me hungry
What makes a better lightning rod than a graphite fishing rod? NOTHING!
the little green onion with tops chopped up like chives are good in them also
