Welcome to the forum! Be sure and check to see that your water pump is working. If it isn't pumping water out of the motor, it will get hot and begin to seize. If it runs fine when the engine is first started up, look at your water pump output.
The water pump aside, it is starving for either fuel or air. Before I'd put a carb kit in, I'd change the in-line filter. If that doesn't do it, I'd run the unit w/o an air filter to see if THAT might be it. If this fails to remedy the situation, then I'd go with the carb kit and clean it up really well.
