Went to LM this morning and it was very slow. Caught three large Crappie by 8:00 and wound up giving them to a bream fisherman and his young son who hadn't caught anything....I did steer them to where they could find the bream before I left. I then decided to take my youngest (21) son with me to try Belcoe. We got there around 12:30 and fished till 4:30. We must have caught between 30-40 crappie and at least twice that many striped bass. The crappie ran between 3-6 inches!! I caught one that was so small he barely even had his eyes open! After the first hour I quit using nibbles because it didn't make any difference...figured I was wasting them....if they saw it they hit it.....it is just that anything over 6 inches didn't bite any jig we tried. Now, we did catch some real good striped bass both in LM and Belcoe but we threw them all back....didn't catch a single keeper at Belcoe. Oh well, it was a real good day anyway and we had fun even catching the little ones. I made a promise to Belcoe before I left that I would be back and settle the score real soon.

At least you went after them today, I spent the day doing chores that have really gotten behind. Thanks for the report.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Must have been "somethin' in tha water" cause the bite in Washington was off too. Running really small.
That's good to know, Bill. The whole time I was in Belcoe I kept tellin' myself, "I knew I should have gone to Washington". If I had gone to Washington I would have been sayin', "I should have gone to Belcoe"! I was fun anyway cause I had my youngest son with me and he doesn't fish much but got a kick out of catching the striped bass and the little crappie. I was fun just being with him on the water. We are just now starting to catch some real nice Crappie in Lake Monticello. The problem there is the fact that there are a couple of WAKEBOARD boats that really shut down about 80% of the lake to fishing when they are out there. I can handle normal ski boats pretty well but these things put out a wake which should be outlawed on all but the biggest lakes. My boat actually got washed into the rock bank on the western side of the lake last Thursday and I thought my trolling motor was going to be destroyed. When I see them coming now I just start rolling up my poles. Steve

I went bream fishing on Lake Monticello Saturday. Caught many lil-uns. Finally found about a 20 ft long spot that had shaded lilly pads and caught 13 keepers. 3 were 1/2 pounders.
The wind was so still, and the water clear, that I think it made the bite slower. I dont think I've ever seen the lake that calm.
