Thread: Brewer Lake

When I lived in Conway I went to Brewer quite a bit. I could catch crappie there year round but never an abundance of big slabs though.

I think CastandBlast fishes there some. He will chime in here with some info.

i have fished it a few times caught a few crappie. when the lake was built they put in a bunch of brush piles. you used to be able to buy a map and it would show you where the piles were located. you might try bates tackle for a map

The stories are true....I catch quite a few big slabs there every spring. 18 1/4" was my biggest last year with a lot in the 14"-16" range. Minnows and road runners by far produce best for me there. You can catch them on jigs but the size just isn't there for some reason. Lots of brush piles in there that produce well and of course the shallow brush in the coves when the spawn is on. If you go to the big fish thread you'll find a pic of a nice Brewer slab that my grandson caught last year.

CastandBlast, have you ever spider rigged that lake? Just wondering if you had ever had any luck with that.

Just went to the big fish page and saw that big one. He must have been over 2.5 lbs. I was looking on google earth, and it looks like a good size creek runs into the lake on the north side. Is that where you have luck after the spawn? It seems they would stay in that fresh deeper water coming into the lake there.

After the spawn, spider rigging is the way to go. Fish the mouth of that cove your speaking of back into the main lake body when the water warms in the summer spider rig up and down the deep part of the lake in front of the dam. You'll see them on your finder 30'-40' deep.

Thanks for the tips. Do you think draggin' crankbaits in the post-spawn will work?
