I'm no expert by any means but i will agree that you wanna be close to the rods...both for comfort and for better hook sets, I'm a (relatively) young man and i learned quickly that the closer the better on the back. due to the configuration of my front deck hatches, i went with the tempress brand wally marshall double seat, it has worked well for me, some folks anchor it with a pedestal on the center post but i have found it to be plenty stable and it allows me to have rack up front and move seat to just the right spot and no additional holes in boat. my front deck is fairly narrow so i just turn the seat backwards and swivel to the outside to sit in it, walking my feet along the edge of the gunnel. i'm in conway if you would like me to bring it by sometime and let you set it in your rig to see if it would be potential. give me a call or text...479.858.27zerozero
