I cut up every 2 liter Cola bottle we have, and keep block ice. I also cut tops out of stuff like Peanut Oil containers (for some reason I don't go through a lot of those in a year, though). I have an old side-by-side in the shop and I keep the freezer side loaded with blocks of ice.

If you put all the blocks a cooler will hold in a cooler...........then the one expensive bag of ice cubes will last a WHOLE lot longer.

That said, I'd still like to have an Orca or Yeti or other rotomolded cooler. But it'll have to come from Santa.

Got a 75 in the Orca, I like it but its just now getting time for it. It is fixing to be a fixture on the rear deck of my Cat and cranked up crappie will be going in it. I also freeze blocks of ice using 2 liters bottles, prolly got 40 or so in the freezer now. Summer time is upon us and we will see what the results will be.

What's the fill line on a 2-liter ? Know it's gonna expand. Bout 3/4 full? Little more? Family left 5-6 bottles of pop some full some 1/2 drank after fish fry the other week and that's what I had in mind.

I cut the tops off of them and fill them to the top of the label. they will cool in the cooler better if you remove them from the plastic. Usually just take my knife and cut down the side and slip it off. We buy 16 two liters a week so have a very good supply.

Just find sumpin cheap at a dollar store to freeze some blocks, when we freeze the whole bottle for the livewell we usually leave it about 2 inches from the top and freeze it with the cap off. Put the cap back on to put it in the livewell during warm weather tourneys.

A lot of it is hollow, has air in it and it don't last long. I put 4 blocks in the cooler that is built in on the Cat Friday night before the tourney Saturday, went to put more in Sunday morning and head out to meet Ree at Enid, about 1/3 of those blocks from Friday evening were still in the cooler.
