Chris, tell them how big of a sissy I am.When you only average 2 8inch fish a month, you don't get a chance to practice landing them, you dip them up with a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooong handled net. I'm happy, Carols happy, and the long handled dip net makers are happy.
Long handled dip nets are very useful. If someone comes by and wants to give you some fish, you can just stick the net over to their boat and they can load it up with the fish. If someone should happen to catch a good slab while close, as a favor you can net their fish for them. This doesn't mean you give it to them once you get it in your netIf you are fishing for speckled trout off a pier mobile bay that is about 6 feet above the water, the long handled net is the bomb unless the trout is as long as your leg and half or more of it is hanging out of the net. Then, no one is happy especially your wife.
I like a long handled net and am not afraid to use it. If a fish is close enough I can see his gills flare, he will probably already be in the net.

Have no problem with people useing a net just think its more of a blood rush not to.
Plus bending the hook out just alittle helps sometimes which I do at times, the only problem you will run into is a big fish can bend it out more and get off.I target crappie but do not camp out in one spot I'm on the move and hardly ever spend more then a couple mins. in one spot.
Cleaning reels today getting ready for a rainly day saturaday just hope the lighting stays away and the fish bite
Was reading the replies and Im wondering what type hooks you been using? Regular bend or sickles?
Don't know about the rest but I perfer Regular Bronze Eagle Claw Jig hooks over Sickles.I fish 1/8 oz leadheads on a #2 hook.

I stopped useing sickle hooks, the design and its sharpness I can feel it tear though the mouth of alot of fish.I use braid and can feel a fishes heart beat when lures gets close to it,I only use a wrist snap when setting the hook may give a extra snap when I feel the wt. of the fish.I can feel it tear though a breams mouth as he fights for his life.Lost alot of slads on the way to the boat could feel the wt of the fish his pulling power and (hear) feel it tear though and out.Nomatter if I tried bringing them in slow or fast can feel (hear) it pull though.Bad enough just now learning and seeing the fared gills as to having a to sharp of a hook.
