I agree completely. We are in the process of trying to get his data. The problem is that even if we do get a hold of the data (he doesnt have to provide it to us by the way) there in no way to tell where the water samples were taken. He may claim that they were taken some where in the lake, but they could have been taken from a completely different location. Also, there are concerns on who is analyzing the water samples. This type of analysis is sophisticated and takes very expensive equipment. I am about to attend meetings the rest of the day. If we find anything else out, I will let yall know.

ADEQ continues monitoring Lake Conway - KATV - Breaking News, Weather and Razorback Sports
Here is an article that KATV reported in response to the claims made yesterday. It sounds like ADEQ is calling this guys bluff and is asking to see his data. This is a good thing because they are the state agency that is responsible for regualting water quality standards and they are the experts in this area. I also learned today that the Attorney Generals office has also hired an independant consulting company to collect their own water and sediment samples. Hopefully they will share their results with us as well.

I can't see how with a spill that big a minute amount of oil could be stopped from entering the lake and or watershed. i have been told that the reason some small water reservoirs don't allow outboards is cause one drop of oil contaminates thousands of gallons of water?

It is within the watershed but not in the main lake. There is a highway that physically blocks the cove from the rest of the lake. Although there are culverts that join these two bodies of water, it's flow is being regulated. Water is only being pumped from the cove when absolutely needed. Absorbent booms and physical booms are keeping what reminants of oil that are left in the cove, away from the pumps and culverts.

My thoughts exactly.
But another thought on this touchy subject... Who is to say this guy was not taking samples at a boat ramp where there is an increased likelyhood of mutiple 2-stroke oil burners (read as oil ejectors) were sitting getting warmed up. The same chemicals he was testing for would more than likely be found in the oil that was not burned, leaving the running motor at the sample site. Would they not?
You Can Make a Difference!
Joe - if you have freinds that have seen something in the water that they think is oil, I want to know. If any of.your friends reports have been recent (past day or two) let me know specifically where. There are other natural phenomenon that cause a sheen on the water. For example cypress trees will give of a residue that looks like an oily sheen on the water. I'm not saying that it what your friends saw, I am just giving an example.
