Spider Rigging
I was brought up skulling a 12 foot boat and fishing with a cane pole. I fished single pole until I was 18 and saw a guy "trolling" with 6 poles. I had to learn it! I'm 48 and still learning. I spend a lot of time every year jigging trees and brush, but when the crappie head to deep open water, I break out the "trolling" poles. I have learned about creek channels, channel breaks, stump rows and suspended fish. Spider rigging or "trolling", whatever you want to call it, is a great way to learn more about crappie and their habits. And it is not easy! Go to a place like Reelfoot and put out 8 poles. You will work your butt off.
So to answer your question, yes I was a single pole fisherman that learned a new way to fish. It is fun and rewarding. You have to be on your toes because the bite can be light and you have to watch your poles and lines very close. It is not about filling the freezer but more about becoming a better fisherman.
I enjoy it.
