I use a 1/2 to 1 ounce weight at the bottom! up 18 inches and loop a 4 to 6 inch loop knot! up one more 20 inches and same 4 to 6 inch loop knot. Reason i do this is its alot easier to get unhooked from a snag with the weight at the bottom. capps an coleman style works great too but harder for me to free from a snag.....

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've been doing some research and I think i've got a pretty decent idea how to get started? Just curious, how often do you get the poles hung up on stumps and junk. Just wondering if that's normal or if its just when your a rookie.

My grandpa always told me, "If you ain't gettin hung up, you ain't Crappie fishin!" You're gonna get hung up, what rookies(me) do is turn 1 snag into 4 or 5!

Oh I am certain ill get hung plenty of times, especially on Conway. I find at least one new stump in the spots I fish, every time I'm out there. I swear they got legs and move.

Rookie or not your going to get hung up. Just with less experiance you will make a bigger mess of it.

    Default spider rigging

I spiderrigged out on the main lake this morning from 6-11:30 and only broke off once. I use a heavy(1oz) weight on the bottom and pull up on the line if i even think i am on a stump or brush. It will usually come loose if you catch it quickly.
