Larry Nixons dad started Fairfield bay and ran the marina.Greers Ferry was an outstanding crappie lake with all the timber still standing. My father started fishing and guiding out of Chereokee park had a restraunt and baitshop no trolling motors just sculling with a paddle i got to help clean fish. I still have his paddle. They had one of the first Bass tourments in Ark no money gave away just prizes you brought the fish in on a stringer.Mr Baily who runs the Shiloh boatt dock now.,Al Harris was one of his top guides on crappie.Carl Davis,Bob West,Rooster West great fishermen of their day.Rooster West weighed in 7 smallmouth out of Greers Ferry in a Carl Garner event that tiped the scales at allmost 5 lb ea weighed 35 lbs did'nt win,Little known Ron Shuffield won the event as a guest of Red River marina with 40 lbs (7 fish) their were 2 ten lb bass weighed and an 11 lb,er won big bass lots of 5 and 6 lb kentuckeys back in the day it was said at one time their was a state record of every type of native fish in arkansas in Greer Ferry. I think the town of Greer Ferry was the called Stark!!!!

Thanks for the history lesson. I don't know a lot about the Shilo area. I did get into some crappie a few years ago along the shore (across the from the swimming hole) fishing some land slides. I may try again in the evenings in the same area.

My Grandfather sold lots at Fairfield Bay when it first opened. I think they went for 4-500 bucks each. I remember catching the tagged bass from under the dock when I was a 7-8 yo kid.

Glad you caught a few, the lake is still dropping about a .10 a day. If we don't get a good rain before long it is sure gonna be tough to run up the river arms.
