CS im going to test every 8 lb mono/FC (will call this the control test line) i can get new off the spool, Of course this will vary if you go up in line weight or down but the results should be about the same on a greater or lesser scale for each brand of line. Ill let you know what poundage they break at in the 8lb class only... but one can expect that results should be similar up and down the line weight classes, It will be fun to see what is the strongest 8lb test on the market. Keep in mind this test is a strength test only, and will not accurately show how well a line frays or not fray... but im willing to bet the stronger lines will not fray as easily as the weaker ones as a whole.

In response to all the knot talk, every know will probably have varying breaking strength cause even though you tie the same knot every one of them will have different breaking strength. Now as for the Cajun red line it's some tough stuff. I use braid on some bass rods cause the feel is better but it frays easy on limbs/rocks. Power pro braid is what I use though for bass on c-rig and finesse rod

One other thing to consider is how easily it frays. I bass fish a lot also and those new Fluorocarbon lines seem to fray way too easy. The FC lines also seem to have too much memory off the spool. Tried that Berkly Vanish also and it is terrible about fraying. Thought I'd add this about these lines before somebody else had to figure it out the hard way like I did. I think I'll pick up some 6LB Mr Crappie line.
I tried he Cajun red and didn't like it at all. It was strong enough but it was like casting bailing wire. I like the limpness and the price of Mr C and every now and then, you can drag your line ( if on a spinning reel) and it is like new as far as a memory set.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

I love the Berkly Vanish Flourocarbon as it's clear and real low line memory.

I put some florucarbon on the wifes bream gitter a couple years ago and it had a memory like an elephant. It lasted 1 trip and it was 9 bucks down the drain. Don't know which brand it was. If you guys that catch fish say it's good, I may need to try it again. Maybe I got it spooled wrong or something.

I used to use P-line but switched to the Berkley about two years ago. I will not use line that has memory....the Berkley Vanish is good stuff and tuff as nails....I really can't think of a single disadvantage to it. I do still use the P-line in 4# test on the slipcork ultralights in clear water (lake Monticello in the summer) and it also works great.

Maybe I can test it for ya at the end of the month BRM. It's looking like a 18 lb breaking point at .010 inches is a pretty good line, but it's early yet who knows we may see a 8 lb test mono FC break the 20 lb barrier.
