    Default Spider Rigging?

Is it legal to spider rig in Arkansas? I have never done it but it does sound like it might be a relaxing adventure, but I have fears to the legality of having 6-12 poles stretched out of the boat in Arkansas.

As long as you don't have more than 30 poles in the water, i think you are ok. There is a limit on the number of yo-yo's, (30 per person). you might run into an individual lake that may have some restrictions. i would refer to the 06 guide. here is a pdf link to it.

I've never heard about AR having any regulations on number of poles. Only yo-yo's and trotlines. Put you about 5-6 long poles out in the rod holders and sit back and relax....

Spider rigs are common at Nimrod and have been used ever since I fished here (pre 1972 ). I have 6 (16' black widow poles ) that I made a holder for to run out the front of my boat. Also have 6 holders for smaller poles out the sides. This contraption has 2 seats and a umbrella holder inbetween the seats. We make rod holders and mount them on a board to put in the boat. Buy a piece of heavy 4'' pvc pipe. Unless you know a plumber and can get scrap. Cut off peices approx 4'' and bore a hole straight through (both sides to hold pole.I use a hole saw used for door locks and the plugs out on the holes make great washers under adjusting bolts. We then cut a 1/4'' slot on one sde to accomadate bolts to hold on board. Dont cut into the holes , just long enough for adjustment of height. Use wing nuts to be able to adjust angle or height of each pole. Run bolt through the board , set on holder , then pvc washer , steel washer , wing nut . This will be fully adjustable side to side and up and down .

Nimrod, you and I are going to have to get together sometime because great minds thingk alike. I made one last night almost exactly as you said, but I did just an experimental small one to start. My dad is a semi-retired electrician so instead of a board, we used a piece of sloted used in comercial lighting aplications. Then attached a piece of all-thread through the middle. My biggest problem was the 1/4'' slot. I had the hardest time making a straght slot in the PVC, used a roto tool, ended up with a jagged zigg-zagg line, but it works.

I use a table saw and lower the blade. To widen the slot make muiltiple cuts and slide pipe sideways to smooth out ends of slots . Then another way would be to use a dado blade on the saw.

Nimrod and Kat I sure would love to see some pics of those rigs. I know the system I use I made as the result of some pics of Labills, Crappiepappy, and Rangos boats. I am in the process of updating them now by adding mini minnow buckets, similar to what I saw on Jerry Blake and Darryl Morris boats. So give us a look at those beast and let us see exactly what your talking about. We might just pick up a tip or two.

I don't have a way to post pictures yet. I was told of some nice fish caught last week trolling (spider rigging ) deep water at Nimrod already. The wind has been unbearable for the most days in last month or so. Hopefully it will calm down this week. I want to jig the open water structure soon. Seldom troll anymore although it works good , I perfer to tightline jigs.:D With over 60 + structures in the lake of our own . We can fish all day and never hit them all.
