Default About as good as it gets... Pics

David, Lily, and myself spent the morning on a Mississippi oxbow lake dragging in some sho'nuf SLABS! We were power trolling jigs up to 1.5 mph and the Crappie were slamming 'em hard. We left at 1:00 with the fish biting better than when we started but Lily had been getting restless for the last couple of hours and we didn't want to push our luck. We had 75 when we quit and the lid on the 60 qt ice chest would just barely close all the way. We had many fish over 2 lbs with the largest going 2 lbs 6 oz. These were the best quality fish we have seen in six months. We have been waiting a long time for the river lakes to start getting right and I think their time has finally arrived. We met Meatgetter on the lake today and he was living up to the name....putting meat in the boat!! I saw some really good slabs being pulled over the side of his boat. It was a good day to be on the water!

Nice fish! I might have to try some oxbows next month when I'm down at Merisach for the Gator hunt.

Those are some good slabs. Sounds like you guys had alot of fun. Tell me, what conditions have changed lately to get 'em going......or did you just find 'em? Congrats.

The river has now fallen lower that it has been since the flood. 27 ft at Greenville and the water is more or less out of the trees in the local oxbows which forces the fish out into the deeper water to chase shad. They don't have anywhere to hide. Now just find the baitfish (shad) and you have found the Crappie. Hit the right combination with color, depth, size, speed, presentation, ect. and you can start pullin' em in the boat. Down here water level is everything....it's what we've all been waiting on!
