A yoyo is a spring loaded reel that attaches to a limb to catch fish. They are a a way to catch lots of fish. Should be outlawed for use except cut bait for catfish. Folks misuse them too much and lots of states already made illegal. Not unusual on some lakes to see hundreds of them tied out. I used them a lot in my younger days to fill up the freezer. When most good fishermen catch more than they need anyway.

    Smile No offense Nimrod but.....

When the fishing is as slow as it was on Cane Creek I see nothing wrong with hangin a few yoyos to help catch a few while pole fishin. Please watch the video. YouTube - D-Ray @ Cane Creek State Park pt2 Had we been lookin to "fill up the freezer", we would have hung out the legal limit of 30 per person instead of 36 between two fisherman. You can bet we wouldnt have released that little catfish or that 9lb 12oz bass either, LOL! Catching 14 crappie over a 5 day period with the help of a few yoyos aint nothin to brag on, but it aint nothin to be ashamed of either.

I am one of those bad fisherman that needs the yo yos and I really like them, but all last year we only cought 2 crappie that we could clean and another that might have went 2.5 inches long and yes we set them so the fish stays in the water. but my one tip for the people who use yo yos is get you a styrofoam minnow bucket and keep the lines short and yo can put your hooks in the foam around the edge and it will keep your yo yos from getting tangled up

    From the 2009 Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Fishing Guidebook;

Up to 30 yo-yos (or similar
mechanical devices) per person may be used as
long as they are not left unattended (out of sight
or hearing) during daylight hours, and no more
than one is hung from a line, wire, limb or support.
Yo-yos must be labeled with the owner’s name and
address or vehicle operator’s license number, or
current vehicle license number of the person using
    such equipment.
This is the most violated part of our state's regulations on the use of yo-yos. They have to be in sight or hearing during the day. I see folks set them and forget them all too often. I have used them in the past and will again in the future. I follow the regs and don't abuse my privileges, and it is a privilege, not a right.

D-Ray, I must say I really enjoyed those two videos and congratulation on the catches. I think more information like this is a good thing.

Oh, and don't take what I've said here about yo-yos personally. It was in no way meant to be. I was just pointing out that the rules for yo-yos are a bit more strict than most of us see/hear about being enforced. As far as I'm concerned, good onya, well done, and more please.

    Thumbs up Thanks Guys

From Crappie Man 57 and myself, Thanks for all the positive feedback on the videos. This was something I have been wanting to do for some time, but just never had the time to mess with. We plan to do more in the future, as Danny and I fish several lakes around the state and are always looking for somewhere new to go, if they're bitin' :D. Next time you see us out there leadhead, come on over an say hey. Its always good to meet other folks from the forum. Thanks again,
    D-Ray

D-Ray and crappie man, I enjoyed the video and glad y'all had some luck on Cane Creek. I've heard it has been slow fishing there this year, and I didn't get to fish it much at all, but maybe next fall. It's one of my favorite lakes for fall and winter fishing and has the prettiest colored crappie I've ever caught. My brother and I both caught our biggest crappie last year both weighed 3 lb. 5 oz., they are at the taxedermist in Star City and should be ready in March. Hope to see y'all on the lake sometimes, and congrats on your catch.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Enjoyed the videos of Cane Creek. I have never fished there due to distance from Conway but looks like I need to go. Those were some monster crappie! I also would like to see L. A. Stumpjumper's fish that weighed 3.5 pounds. Now that's a monster!!
Hope you make some more videos, or at least post more pics. Way to go!
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
