Went to my favorite shellcracker hole to try out the new Ice Cube Rockin' Power this morning. Stopped and bought some red wigglers. First good fish on the Ice Cube:
Caught one slab crappie:
Also tried the trout magnet on 1g Daiwa jig, and caught several spotted and largemouth bass, biggest about 1.5 lb. What a blast!
My impression of the rod: beautiful workmanship, perfectly balanced, light and stiff, but bends easy on a fish, and bites felt hard and sharp. I did boat flip the little ones. It casts way farther than I thought it would - I put my bait in the trees a couple times getting used to it.
What was NOT a blast was my experience with the Varivas Ester line. It is coming off the Luvias as fast as I can strip it - not for me. The manageability was too much, it boiled off the spool like a clock spring at the end of every cast, and I had wind knots and tangles galore, causing me to cuss and re-tie many times. Going to stick with mono for now. I think the Rockin' Power can handle USA 2 lb test; putting Trilene on there now.
Going back in the morning for more shellcrackers! Love them.
